Small steps

I'm just getting started,...

While we're on the topic, here's some other things that are a giant waste of time...
Reading books.
Eating healthy.
Working.
Sleeping.
Okay, now you're confused, and that's good, because that's what I was going for.

So let me elaborate and finish my statement...

Exercising and these other things are a giant waste of time...if they are not done on a consistent basis.

We know exercise is good for you. It's good for your body. It helps you live longer.

But here's who I'm talking about...

The guy that works out once, then doesn't work out for a few weeks, then gets motivated and works out again, then doesn't work out for awhile, then works out on a random Tuesday morning.

Sure, maybe it's good that he hopped in the gym for three random days, but the reality is that he's wasting his time.

The benefits of exercise are CUMULATIVE!

That is, when you consistently exercise, you see long-term benefits.

I worked out this morning.

If I don't work out for another six months, then today's workout was a giant waste of time.

There's no long term benefit from one single workout (cue the know-it-all who will send an obscure research article showing a guy who worked out once and lived to 100).

And the benefits to all the stuff I listed above are cumulative too!

Reading, eating healthy, working, and sleeping.

If I eat broccoli on a Monday, but then eat fast food the rest of the week, I might as well have eaten fast food on Monday too!

But if I consistently eat healthy (maybe 80/20), then over time research shows I'll see health benefits.

This works for "NEGATIVE" stuff too.

If it rains today, that's not really a big deal.

But if it rains every day for the next 10 days, that's probably gonna create some issues around town.

Scrolling Facebook for an hour today is probably not a big deal.

But do it daily?

That's a lot of wasted time.

The reason I'm bringing this up, is because on a typical day, the work you need to do to see results in your business can seem mundane.

It can seem overwhelming.

But if you view it like working out, eating healthy, or sleeping...you might flip your mindset a bit.

For example, I can't go to bed tonight and get all the sleep I'll need for the rest of my life. It's not possible.

But many of us try to turn ourselves into super successful entrepreneurs and business owners overnight.

It's that "get rich quick" mentality that's so prevalent online.

STOP...

Pick a few things you can do every single day, that over time have a positive cumulative effect on your business.

And do them CONSISTENTLY!

eCommerce for example...

"Find a winning product."

This can seem overwhelming.

It's almost like waking up and saying, "Today I'm gonna get in shape."

Instead, make it: "Test ONE new product per day."

Sure sounds better than "Test 30 products a month."

That sounds a little overwhelming...

Like something I might avoid doing because it seems like a lot of work.

So focus on testing one product at a time.

But remember...

If I test one product today and then quit, that's a giant waste of time.

Or if I setup one ad and then move on, I'm just throwing money down the drain.

But by doing it CONSISTENTLY, my business can get in shape...

...it'll be healthier long-term.

And THAT'S worth spending time on :).
